Austin is the only city with two completely different Kill Tony experiences: the weekly podcast tapings at Comedy Mothership, and the New Year's Eve arena show at Moody Center. They use two completely different buying systems — club rules at the Mothership, concert rules at Moody Center — and buying through the wrong one is the most common mistake Austin visitors make.
The quick answer
For a Mothership taping, buy only from the venue's official site, thecomedymothership.com. Resale is strictly prohibited and third-party tickets can be canceled at the venue's door. The Mothership tapings: club rules
The weekly tapings happen at Comedy Mothership, 320 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78701 — the historic Ritz Theater on Sixth Street in downtown Austin. The club has two showrooms: Fat Man, the larger headliner room, and Little Boy, the smaller room. Everything below comes from the venue's published FAQ, checked October 21, 2026.
How to buy. Tickets are sold only through thecomedymothership.com, plus the club's box office at 512-610-5537. Ticket resale is strictly prohibited, and tickets suspected of being purchased for resale will be canceled at the venue's discretion. All sales are final — no refunds or exchanges.
Who can go. The Mothership is a 21+ venue. This is the biggest contrast with the NYE arena show, which has no age restriction (see below).
Getting in. Arrive 30–45 minutes before showtime to get through security and be seated. Guests can be no later than 30 minutes — after that your tickets will be voided and may be resold to standby guests, with no refund. Seating is first come, first served within your ticket type, so earlier arrival means better seats.
Know the house rules. The club uses Yondr phone pouches — your phone and smart watch are sealed on arrival and unlocked at the end of the show. There is a two-drink minimum (including non-alcoholic drinks). There is a dress code (no cut-off shirts, costumes, or backpacks/large bags), and recording devices are banned. The NYE show: concert rules
The other Austin experience is the New Year's Eve arena show: Kill Tony at Moody Center, 2001 Robert Dedman Dr, Austin, TX 78712, on Thursday, December 31, 2026, starting 7:00 p.m. CT (times subject to change). Moody Center's official event page, checked October 21, 2026, confirms the date and adds: no age restrictions for this event, and tickets on sale now.
This is a standard arena concert setup — different from the club. The venue lists Ticketmaster and the Moody Center box office as the only authorized ticket sellers, with Ticketmaster's Ticket Exchange as the only authorized resale option. Entry is mobile-only; printouts and screenshots won't work. Which one should you pick?
The taping is the raw weekly show in a comedy club — the room Kill Tony grew out of (see our history of the show and the Mothership). It's 21+, intimate, and phones are sealed for the whole night. The NYE show is an arena-scale event with 15,000+ seats, no age restriction, and a New Year's Eve crowd. They are different shows in different rooms — if you want the club experience, nothing about the NYE show substitutes for it, and vice versa. Also note: "Kill Tony" at Moody Center is the main show hosted by Tony Hinchcliffe — not "Killers of Kill Tony" dates, which feature the show's regulars instead of the full taping format.
Planning the trip
Getting around. If you're flying in, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is about 8 miles from Moody Center. The Mothership sits on 6th Street in the middle of downtown, so anywhere downtown keeps the club walkable or a short ride away — but remember Sixth Street is Austin's nightlife strip, so factor in traffic and noise if you're sleeping nearby.
Where to stay. For NYE, book early: holiday hotel rates in Austin climb fast, and Moody Center lists the Fairmont Austin, the AT&T Hotel and Conference Center, and the Renaissance Austin Downtown as preferred hotels — details in our NYE guide. For a taping trip, downtown hotels put you near the club; the venue notes there are plenty of paid parking lots around 6th Street, with free 2-hour street parking on 6th between Red River and Congress and meters free after 6:00 p.m. Monday–Wednesday.
When to arrive. For the Mothership, 30–45 minutes before showtime (and never more than 30 minutes late — see above). For Moody Center on NYE, leave early: downtown Austin is packed on New Year's Eve, arena crowds clear slowly, and rideshare surge pricing after midnight is likely. Don't trust any fixed "Mothership price tier" you see on third-party sites: the club sells direct, and anyone advertising guaranteed club seats is selling something the venue doesn't recognize.
What if the tapings are sold out?
The club runs standby lines for sold-out shows. People usually start lining up an hour or two before showtime; it's first come, first served, and you wait until 30 minutes after the show starts to see if seats open up. Standby is a real option for locals — but entry is never guaranteed, so don't book flights and hotels around it. If you're traveling in for a taping, buy tickets first and plan the trip around confirmed tickets.
